wk4

So this is how is going to work...
I'm going to try and document this semester's design project (and others) and track the progression week by week. Its kinda a passive surveillance on my own progress/ process and keep certain degree of self-criticism parallel to the project as week goes by. I'm a little unsure how it will turn out and am a bit frighten to put it out in the open...

The past week was a simple task working with materials/ cladding. Idea was to recontextualise, to create a protype of a cladding (??). Mine was a simple one... working with material's properties choosen (in this case, timber veneer from Reverse Garbage). By weaving the strips together (with grains going perpendicular to one another) to enhance to strengh of the material...and to use the rigid material in a way similar to fabric. (After thought) As an concept for cladding ,by weaving - material is partially both inside/outside thus space in between offers oppurtunity for programs to be inserted??? so the skin also forms the gut of the building. skin*floor slab* wall*ceiling*skin*floor slab*wall.....
...but the result was a rather ugly looking placemat, which is kinda disappointing.

This week the group was given some information of the site...

Dust & Pies

Kick up the dust 06... big up to Vonsta! ( and the rest of ADC) for pulling the event together. Pointing creativity in the right direction. The night was a mix bag ... some acts were awesome some weren't so my cuppa but these people they are doing what they love, one for the music! Keeping it alive!... Then there were the night's MCs... I say people should turn off their teevee and stop watching so much MTV and Channel V... (pacific...pacific...pacific... hot damn!)

And Happy Birthday to Liz! Thanks to Ken and Liz I finally had my first Harry's Pie from the cafe de wheel. I had a chicken and cheese and a 'Tiger'... Its one step up from a kebab... but thats not saying much. But I will go back for another.

City Love

Sometimes if you listen closely enough you can actually hear the city breathing among streets we walk, between murmurs of city’s architecture only to be interrupted by the break of dawn and its hustle & bustle.
Learning about a city is a lot like being in a relationship (I'm aware the same thing can be said about lots of other things) ... We fall head over heels by a city's charm its charisma & characters blinded by its sights and sounds; drawn in by its lure and excitement; We learn its way of life and its culture their history, past glory and wounds... streets and roads explored in order to navigate efficiently and at greater ease, discovering things that sometimes proves to be some what devious yet adventurous; How many roads one passes on their way to and from A&B? Where routine and regularity becomes streets with no names nor identity? Its fragmentation conjures up finer grains and sensitivity that soaks into our very skin like spilled red wine on carpet; One can spend a life time learning its seasonal change its shifts in rhythm to adapt, enrich, compromise and to compensate and still be surprise even by the smallest of details; We travel the world but yet there’s no place like home, some says.
And like a good lover, it always leaves the sweetest taste in your mouth.
Goodbye Paul and Jen...Sydney was on its best behaviour the past couple of days... until next time? Maybe in Vienna (ha!)

*But tonight it sleeps uneasy.
Night falls.
Black... like her hair.
