...9:30 AM
...on a train heading into Central.
Observed.
No seats available so I stood, as did 4 other people that got on the train at the next stop.
With my ear buds blocking out the rest of the world I felt like I was looking in from the outside... while being inside.... (Anyway)
This dude stood near the door, very restless. He was chewing gum but the rate he chewed looked like he was trying to tear through a leg ham of a tyrannosaurus. Very anxious. The suit looked brand new probably worn for the first time as was the tie, shirt and shoes (there was no crease at the toe box). It wasn't tailored ... or might just be the cutting I guess... but the sleeves were an inches and a half too short. He fiddled with the blazer sleeve and shoulders constantly. Looked very uncomfortable in his own skin plus the slightly too small blazer made his already abnormally big head even bigger like a hot air balloon. He looked too pimped up for nine thirty. Gucci (or Pucci) sunglasses with diamantes on a white under-wrap-around frame, red on black pin-stripes suit and a Nixon-like wrist watch... N70 in a leather case (who uses the complementary leather cases anyway?)
My conclusion: Going for an interview or first day on a new job, perhaps. Explains the anxiety; self-consciousness on appearance and the tricked-out accessories. Also he wasn't carrying a bag or a suitcase either...
...9:32 AM.
After a quick observation I became very aware of how blur the notion of public and private we experience today.
I had my iPod on with my ear buds, which disengaged the self from everything else on a sensory level yet I cannot be more open and exposed in the public realm. Distance (physical and experiential) shortened. Constantly connected to other parts of the world by wireless technology where it be my phone or laptop. Travel at high speed in still. Even this entry itself... the world suddenly becomes smaller yet self-realm fluctuates between extremities.
Moving right along...
Looks like the tomatoes escaped from the cruelty of hell's kitchen and found themselves a nice happy place to rest their tired Lycopersicon esculentus legs. What adventures awaits them? We'll find out soon.
